Citizen data scientist is the new data analyst

Gartner defines a citizen data scientist as, “a person who creates or generates models that use advanced diagnostic analytics or predictive and prescriptive capabilities, but whose primary job function is outside the field of statistics and analytics.” Citizen data scientists can bridge the gap between mainstream self-service analytics by business users and the advanced analytics techniques of data scientists. They perform sophisticated analysis that would previously have required more expertise, enabling them to deliver advanced analytics without having the skills that characterize data scientists. This presentation is about how Tableau, Maestro and other third-party applications integrating with Tableau can support this emerging group of advanced data analysts which Gartner predicts will surpass data scientists in the amount of advanced analysis produced.

Guest Speaker | Giorgia Lupi on data humanism

Now that the ways we relate to information are evolving more rapidly than we realize, it is time to change our minds about data. This talk is about how we can see this moment as an opportunity to jumpstart a new renaissance, where we can question the impersonality of a merely technical approach to data and bring more value to it.

Giorgia will share how her experiences in the world of data—spanning from business data visualization consulting with her firm to creating visual data art installations for MoMA—lead her to develop a new approach to working with information, a work philosophy she calls data humanism.

Her talk will show with concrete examples how we can use the tools of the designer to radically rethink the way we interact with data and imagine new visuals, tools and experiences that can reconnect it to what it ultimately stands for: our lives, ideas, and experiences.

Powering Boeing's second century with actionable insights

The development of a new airplane requires strict attention to a vast array of business health baselines (e.g. schedule, Risk-Issue-Opportunity, finance) in order to deliver on a plan. These baselines and their underlying data exist within disparate architectures, making analysis hard to find and prescriptive program management decisions difficult to make. Using Tableau, Boeing's 777X Program Management Analytics Team has normalized, blended and presented these disparate data streams as a common digital thread, visualized on a series of Tableau dashboards deployed via mobile and server. Gaining approval for your BI program

Many of us have been, or are in, the position of implementing or expanding an Analytics program. In many of those cases, we face resistance. This can be especially fierce when doing a modern self-service rollout vs. a legacy centralized implementation. Roadblocks can take the form of security, costs, benefits, features, and plain old obstructionists. Hear from Tableau’s Director of Enterprise Analytics as he shares his experiences, both inside and outside of Tableau, of being in that same position. You’ll learn how to prepare for those potential obstacles, gather the right data, and build support through both cultural and technological changes. Put into practice, you can get your approvals and make your next deployment a smashing success!
