In 1994, a few thousand runners participated in the first Walt Disney World Marathon. 25 years later, Walt Disney World hosts several of the largest races in the United States. A visualized history of runDisney events is presented to illustrate the differences in participant behavior compared to other similarly sized non-Disney running events. This session uses Tableau to investigate how the behavior of runDisney participants has changed over time and compares this behavior to select non-Disney events across the 25-year history of running at Disney World. Visualization enthusiasts will appreciate the advanced chart types, complex calculations and data manipulation required to create Tableau visualizations from publicly posted runDisney race results.
