#TableauOnBigData | Kyvos enables Walgreens to query trillions of rows with sub-second responses

Being one of the largest retail pharmacy chains in the world, Walgreens wanted to leverage their data to optimize supply chain business strategy. To be able to achieve the use cases that will improve supply chain efficiency and reduce inventory costs, there is a need to process 466 billion rows of inventory data and sales data from over 20,000 suppliers and 9,000 stores. Their current systems were strained while dealing with the scale and cardinality of their data, and could not provide timely insights to thousands of suppliers and business users. The visualizations are essential to support the data sharing strategy between Walgreens and their suppliers. In this talk, Walgreens will describe how they use Kyvos and Tableau to analyze two years of historical data instantly and interactively to get deeper insights into their supply chain.

Driving population health initiatives with Midwest Health Collaborative’s user-driven design process for visualization

Midwest Health Collaborative (MHC) was charged with bringing financial and clinical data to member hospital systems’ to drive population health initiatives. However, complicated charts and clunky reports hindered user adoption.

MHC addressed these challenges thru a user-drive design that enabled a deep understanding of users and their initiatives, to deliver solutions in response to their specific needs.

This is driving superior decision making and measurable value. The Population Health Engine enables executives to instantly identify a strategy to maximize revenue across contracts, contract managers to set tactical plans in line with that strategy, and care coordinators to execute those plans by generating lists of specific patients with quality care gaps for outreach. This is reducing waste and driving rapid responses to shifts in population risks, enabling fast detection of changes in spending and quickly identifying areas of concern for remediation.

We got Tableau…but the CEO loves tables

Visualization best practices are baked into Tableau by design, which makes creating beautiful, effective visualizations easy, but transitioning to such reports may not happen overnight. Moving incrementally can avoid jarring your audience with a complete redesign of familiar dashboards and the ability to iterate quickly can make Tableau a great tool for a journey to more effective reporting, but the biggest obstacle on this path is often the very first step. How can you migrate legacy reports to Tableau as literally as possible? Why is it so hard and what are some subtle enhancements that you can incorporate to slowly build support for better visualization?
